What Is eCOGRA and What Does Its Seal Mean?
The eCOGRA seal is a certification that a casino has passed independent auditing. It does not mean the casino is safe, only that it has been audited and met minimum standards.
The deal
An eCOGRA seal on a casino website means that the casino paid for an audit and passed it. Full stop. It does not mean the casino is legitimate (though legitimacy helps). It does not mean the casino will not cheat you (though auditing reduces that risk). It means they paid for professional scrutiny and passed.
Round 1: What eCOGRA Actually Is
eCOGRA stands for eCommerce and Online Gambling Regulation and Assurance. It is a testing and certification body. Casinos hire them to conduct audits. The audits are expensive and rigorous.
eCOGRA tests:
- RNG (random number generator) compliance
- Payout percentages
- Game fairness
- Player fund segregation
- Data security
- Responsible gambling practices
If a casino passes all these tests, eCOGRA issues a seal.
Round 2: The Economics
